When my 110 fails again, I will put in the 120R rather than mess around.

Gecko,

Later versions of the 110 have been going great guns here in Australia....  I would not call the 110 a disaster....  They make a little engine noise but so what.  I love mine and have ordered another.    :2vrolijk_21:

Help them, don't knock them..   :2vrolijk_21:

That's great for those with a later version, not so much if you have an '07.  I "helped" them to the tune of thirty grand when I bought it.  In return I ended up with the knocking.  I couldn't sell mine if I tried; if I went to look at a bike and heard this junk of an engine under me I'd ride back to the guy's house and walk away.  Probably why the dealer doesn't offer test rides.  If people want to continue being the MOCO's beta testers that's their choice - I'm done buying first or second year anything from them.

In all fairness, even Ford F-450 4x4 Crewcab I have now, I usually NEVER buy the first couple of years of a new motor...  I will hang with my 09, Model Year 2010, and use it for the big horsefloat until the new 6.7 Ford diesel get miles up on it..

I hate to be cynical but leaning on 60 has given me the insight that the early bird guinea pigs out on the road are the ones testing the new engines, allowing the mods that make them good.  It seems to be the same with all new engine releases....

Best of luck sorting out yours.  If you are going to keep it, the welded up crank and Timken bearings seem to straighten out the liabillities of the lower end.  I don't know exactly what they do, but If I was doing a top end teardown I would get some help and look into it...  110's here seem to be going strong, so much so I am ordering a second one... :bananarock:

Too bad these 110"ers got such bad press, as they really/truely have great potential, as long as the minor shortcomings are understood, and addressed, correctly.

I see you got some press in 'American Iron'. Read it last night.

Yeah, it's like the best ax I ever owned - changed the handle twice and the head once.

Kind of depends on what is considered "minor"
The 110 inherited the base motor deficiencies then got a few of it's own. What is the level of work / expense where we move from "minor" and have "major"?
I see the 120r as possibly (after more testing of bolt-in crate motor installations) a very good, cost effective solution that addresses power and reliabiltiy. There are many nits I can find with that motor too but they seem to be running and not failing which is more than I can say for many of the 110s.
Time and miles will tell the story better. The 120r is too new to conclude anything.
