58mm FBW Throttle Body
« on: April 16, 2011, 10:31:37 AM »

Anybody know where there s a 58mm FBW throttle body?

Appearantly back ordered again with only vague info for when will be available.

Or, any alternatives out there?

I am going to call HPI but from what I've been reading the 2011 stock 50mm TB may not be able to be bored?

Thanks for any help with this.

Had my FLHXSE2 being worked on over the last several weeks, wanted to go 58mm, but I wanted to keep the stock air cleaner, so we shipped my throttle body to HPI to bore it out, ends up just like you said - after HPI got it, they said they couldn't work on it, the actual casting of the 2011 throttle body is thinner (hard to explain, I saw the 2 before they put them on & there is a definate difference)...luckily the dealer had a leftover 2010 from another customers bike to bore out & put in my bike. My dealer also said that they are still having trouble getting 58mm bodies.

So if I read this right, an '09 or '10 SE 50mm TB can be bored to 58mm, but not the '11's?

No, a 09 or 10 - 50mm can be bored to 54 by HPI and with the attachment of their custom intake manifold it will flow very near to what a SE 58mm will flow. The 2011 50mm Throttle Body can not be bored at all.

Why?

The TB for 2011 is different Chip, with a new die cast body.  Looks like they thinned it out (cost reduction) as much as possible.

Correct, in a nut shell the wall thickness is too thin to be bored

Thanks for the clarification on the years.

What does it run approximately to have a 50mm '09 bored to 54mm?  Just in case this next winter I elect to do a cam and what a bit more air flow with it.

Thanks again, nice thread.

From HPI website - "Horsepower Inc. is able to rework your existing stock 50mm fly by wire throttle body to 54mm with a full port and polish finish." cost is $300 unless you need a custom intake manifold, then price is more. They have all the details on their site - http://www.horsepowerinc.net/Products_Reworked%20Throttle%20Bodies.htm

Thanks for the added information.

Do the stock injectors have enough piss in the pistons to handle a mild cam and the 54mm TBW?  Or should higher flowing injectors be installed at the same time?

Thanks to everyone sharing info here.

I think it would be close on the injectors with just the cams & throttle body...I'm not an expert, hopefully someone else can chime in. With mine, recently went to high comp pistons, heads worked by Baisley, 54mm throttle body by HPI & Woods TW7 cams (cams installed last year) tuner thought he had bigger injectors on the shelf, was mistaken, so he tried the stock injectors & couldn't get enough fuel, had to get the bigger injectors...with the heads being worked over & the larger throttle body the bike is really looking for fuel now.
