brake light always on
« on: April 25, 2011, 09:16:33 AM »

Went for a ride this weekend and a buddy noticed my brake light was not working. Actually though it is working and is on all the time. Both filaments in the bulb are on. Checked the fuses, bulb, and brake control lever but I think it is a sign of a bad ground. Any ideas.   Trip to the dealer is in order I guess. I hate electrical issues.  (09 Serg)

Sounds like a bad brake light switch, front or rear. Find the switches and pull the wire off, if the light goes out, bad switch. If not you may have one of the brake light wires shorted to ground.....

The brake light wires through the switches complete the + side not the ground side of the circuit.  So if shorted there you'd pop a fuse.  Switch stuck closed would do it though.  Have seen that more commonly with the pressure switch for the rear.  That's also the easiest one to unplug to start troubleshooting.  Good luck sorting out.

Sounds like the switch.  Did you happen to remove and replace the front brake lever recently?

If so, start with that one.
