Garmin 2720
« on: June 02, 2006, 08:32:38 PM »

I have decided to install a Garmin 2720 on my CUSE.  Does anyone have pictures of their mounted 2720/30?  I assume this unit cannot be mounted on the dash because of the leather dashboard.  Does Garmin sell a handbar mount for the unit?  Did you wire unit into the harness or use the cig lighter?

Harley did come out with an adapter kit to use the HD GPS System in a car.  They do not recomend using it on a motorcycle windshield.

There also is a handle bar mounting kit...I have one on order, but do not think it will work with the Hydraulic Clutch Resevoir.  The fairing mounting kit does not work with the gage cover.  I am thinking about modifing the cover so that the mounting bracket will work.  That will be a winter project, too busy riding right now!

First I must apologize for not having pics at this writing.  Having said that, I will get some and post.  I took my dash pad off and had an upholstery shop cut around the mounts for the radar detector and the Road Quest Garmin GPS.  It cost me $85 and I was able to mount the the two items a little outboard of where they normally go.  The one problem I have is with the mount system HD has for both.  There are two slots that a pin slides over and supposedly locks onto; Then you push from underneath and a small spring is supposed to keep the system in place. I have had both fall off when I hit a small bump.  I have modified the holders and hopefully they will hold now, but I must warn you if you use the fairing mount from HD you will need to modify it or you stand a chance to loose your equipment :-[  Very poor design >:(
