Help with IPOD interface install
« on: May 08, 2011, 09:35:18 AM »

Can anyone please help me with my Ipod install.  It was supposed to be easy, but it end being very difficult.  I have a 2010 CVO Ultra with the XM module and obviously the CB module.  I mounted the IPOD module with two faced tape on top the other two modules centered and even.  The plugs were easy to figure out, I assumed the 3rd plug off the ipod harness was for future use and i capped it with the cap provided in the bag with the wire ties.  We set the pins in the 35 pin harness, however we did have a couple of issues getting them in deep enough to get a connection.  At one point, the left front and rear speaker wasn't getting power but we fixed that.  Everything worked, the hard part was getting the fairing back on and figuring out how to place all the wiring so it would fit.  Got her all buttoned up, everything seemed to work ok in my enclosed garage, however in the back of my mind it really didn't seem as loud but it's been a while so i thought it was my imagination.  I went for a ride yesterday, I couldn't hear shiznit at any speed!  I have Hawg Wired speakers and I never had problem rocken down the highway at 80 listening to music even with my Zumo MP3's.  The reason i got the IPOD interface was for clarity and more volume.  When i hooked my IPOD with the AV cable the sound difference was enough to get me to spend the money.

I think somewhere along the line, I lost my amplifier and i am running my music off the radio power?   Any thoughts before i throw in the towel and bring it to the HD dealer to figure out?  There real idiots so I would like to figure this one out?  I haven't checked, but does the amp run on a separate fuse?  Maybe it's that simple?  One of the pins that went into the connector, was one for the amp?  and thirdly and hopefully not true, could i have fried the amp?

You've already done this i'm sure, but check the volume on the Ipod itself. It should be at max.

Call Iron Cross Audio in the a.m.:

http://www.ironcrossaudio.com/

They know more about the Harman Kardon system than anyone you'll find at a dealership.

There is a sticky at the top of this forum explaining how to run the Harman Kardon's self-diagnostic protocol; perhaps, that will help identify what's going on.

Another possible issue is the 35 wire connector.  You had to "open" it to insert some wires from the ipod harness, and it's possible that one or more other wires became dislodged--that's easy to do.  An easy visual inspection is to confirm that the sockets for each wire are fully inserted--the socket will be touching the inside surface of the red wedgelock.

Hope you get it sorted out.

Carl

PS:  If you look at the wiring diagram for your audio, the only audio signal going to the amp is from the front speakers' signals' of the HK.  If the amp is dead (i.e. blown fuse), there (probably) would be zero audio output to the front and rear speakers.
