Sticker removal
« on: May 20, 2012, 04:40:25 PM »

Anyone have a good remody for removing the sticker from the aircleaner? I took it off and the glue remained, not sure what best solution is for getting rid of the glue. Any ideas?

I like to try to get as much as possible off before breaking out the chemicals, so I take 2" wide packaging tape and press it onto the old adhesive, then remove the tape.  After several repeats, this usually removes much/most of the adhesive.  Try heating up the old adhesive first, that will loosen it's grip a bit.  Then I complete the job with WD40, acetone or one of the commercial cleaners like Goof Off.  Finish it off with a wash and wax.   btw, if you're working on a painted surface instead of a plated metal, be careful with the heavy duty chemicals.

Thanks grc, I will definitely try that first. I also thought that I would take the cleaner off and work on the cover to keep it away from all painted surfaces

Turn it upside down so you can't see it.

The best product on the market IMHO is Rapid remover, it is safe on chrome and paint, it is water soluble so it is safe to use, and it works very well.

Here is what I used and it worked superbly. I used Motsenbocker's Lift Off. You had to let it sit a little while but worked great. I would definitely recommed this to everyone since it is water based. When I was done it looked great. To make it work I originally used paper towels, then switched to microfiber towels and let it soak for about five minutes. I had to use a little elbow grease with the microfiber to make it work, then washed it off and it looks great.
I laughed out loud about turning it upside down and would have worked but wanted a better solution.
I took the air cleaner cover off and worked on it with the sink and dawn but didn't touch it until I bought the Motsenbocker's Lift Off. It came right off with some muscle.
Thanks for the imput, and anyone else looking for the same remedy take note this works.
