exhaust (muffler) noise in Germany
« on: May 09, 2011, 03:50:01 PM »

Help! Advice Needed.   I am riding to Germay in September with my CVO Street Glide.  I have Monster Ovals fitted and they sound great.  However, I am worried that the German Police might not think so and book me for making too much noise and having non standard mufflers fitted.
Do I need to put my stock mufflers on for my ride, or just chance it?

Jazz, suggest you try PMing Kraut - he's from Germany and if he doesn't know then maybe he can point you in the right direction.

replied by pm - but if it's of common interest:

In the EC the local police will normally know their local laws - but they will be quite uncertain about EC-laws  ;)

As a vehicle beeing legal in it's home country (within EC) can not be molested in any other EC-country for incompliance to local laws they usually just look at the foreign licence plate and thats'it.

You may get into trouble as they may suspect your pipes to be too loud and it may take some hours in a road-check - but chances are they will let you drive away as a too much complicated customer  ;)

Would that also apply to non-EC countries?  If someone in the US would like to travel to Europe and ship their bike, do you think they would they have any issues?

Q:  What is the USA's number one export to China?
A:  Trash!  They loved our high quality trash. (not any longer).

Note that there can be local laws that restrict motorcycles from parts of the town during certain hours entirely.  Those you won't get around by being an American (and therefore stupid).

Hmmm, I guess the riding program I saw that showed signs with a bike and circle-X through it was outdated.  Too bad we can't get laws repealed here too.
