Radio Replacement
« on: July 16, 2011, 07:35:02 AM »

My 2011 FLHTCUSE6 is in the shop for radio problems. I've been told by the service manager that they will  replace it with a reconditioned radio. The bike is only 6 months old. I'm not happy with a reconditioned radio as a  replacement . I don't feel a new $40K motorcycle should have used parts put in it as replacements. Has anyone had any issues like this? Also I need the phone # of the MOCO  customer service.

That is the way radio issues are handled. I had the Radio replaced on my 06 Roadglide and it was reconditioned. No issues with the replacement.

I blew my 6-speed tranny on my 1992 Corvette and the GM Dealer replaced it with a reconditioned one from GM, went through two more.

Seems to be the norm...

Whether they should or not is irrelevent to the fact that they can.  It's stipulated in the warranty contract.  If it's there they can do it.

Standard operating procedure for MOCO. Same deal with my FLHTCUSE4 the radio was working but you could not see the display, the replacement was not much better, it lasted until factory warranty expired. It still works Ok but i can only see the display under certain sun light conditions and only see an orange glow at night. I felt just like you when I left my stealer and they knew I was pissed but didn't care. Lots of us have had radio issues. When I get tired of not seeing it (probably this winter) I will take it out and send it to "Iron Cross Audio" for some upgrades. There are lots of posts on here about radio problems and what people did to correct them.

Trust me. as a 12 volt professional who runs a successful side business catering to very picky customers I can assure you that a refurbished HK head unit will be the same, if not more dependable than a new unit. In addition, I cannot stress the quality and professionalism of Iron Cross enough. I have used them several times with incredible results. They really are top notch IMO.

Thanks for all the input. I hope the replacement will be better than new. I have 7 year warranty so I guess I'll  have time to get a good one.

Just found out my radio on my "11" FLHTCHSE6 has issues also.  It cuts out when I throttle up.  Does it both with speakers and headsets.  As soon as I let off the throttle it comes back.  Makes it impossible to listen to unless your at a stop. Your problem happen to be similar?  I would think mine is an electricle issue of some sort rather then a short.  It will cut out when at a stop if I throttle high enough.  Any thoughts?  thanks-jay

Yes, take it to the dealer & let them give you the same BS line. " We will  have to replace it with a reconditioned radio."
