Pulling a trailer
« on: May 11, 2006, 09:40:26 PM »

I have a '06 FLHTCUSE and a trailer. I use to pull this trailer with my old Roadking and my old Ultra. I want to use it with my '06 FLHTCUSE, and I need to put a bumper on the '06. But, according to Harley's parts manual the bumper will not fit or they may not have updated the manual yet. In any event if I don't put a bumper on the bike it will leave a 3" gap between the fender and the hitch. Anyone have a solution to my problem ?

Check with Bushtec (www.bushtec.com).  They have a vertical receiver hitch for the Harley FLs.  Just put it on my CUSE.  On the regular FLs with the bumper they are practically invisable when the receiver is removed but the are quite acceptable on the CUSE even without the bumper.  If your trailer requires a ball hitch you can get the receiver this way.

Don't know if it is the same or not, but I have the 05 SE Glide and put a hidden hitch on it, thought the gap looked weird.  Got the chrome bumper for an Ultra, threw away the rubber insert and replaced that with the chrome insert.  Fit perfectly and cleaned up the back end.  As I remember, the bar bumper thingy just bolted to the saddle bag brackets and a stud under the fender.   As you will not be putting any stress on the bumper, the lack of a stud should not present any real problems as it will just be a filler piece.
