You have my condolances!

I have used this   http://www.drcolorchip.com/   on a few cages and it worked great...I have not inquired about the availability for Harley colors though.

I feel your pain, I couldn't wait to get out on the new bike last year and as luck would have it the car in front of me picked up a stone and it hit my fairing. I ordered the touch up paint from HD. I can still see it,however it doesn't bother me as much now. Time heals all!!!

I hate when that happens.....The real good custom paint guys can cover that up....see who is in the area ...they will use a filler if its dented, wet sand and blend it in perfect..... some of the guys can match paint......the other thing to do is get the touch up paint and let the pros touch it up and let them buff

Good luck

I am not a paint expert but good a damaging everything I have .....lets say this I have had keys in my hand and grab the luggage rack on the tour pack and bing a light scratch.. I use cleanbright liquid ebony # 27 its like water running out of the bottle I put a little on a micro fiber towel and use one finger and keep working at it.....I rub against the grain not with the grain of the scratch. I have 2 black cars and a black bike I use it all the time....

Knowing what I know about vehicle paint as a prior body man, I opted to spend the money having the protective film installed on my 2010 Cvo. I have not regretted it. I recently got back to Vegas from a round trip to Dallas Tx and while washing he bike noticed what looked to be a large chip and indentation. Turmns out that the film absorbed the impact, prevented a chip in the paint. This was right on the batwing. I had a piece of the film replaced and she still looks like new.

JohnnyRock, Like some of the other guys said the first nick or scratch is a killer. However, looking on the bright side you won't have to go thru this again, and if you can find the paint chip you can probably sell it on the site for at least $100.00. All kidding aside don't try to fix it unless you are an expert. It will only show up more. A lot of car dealerships have people who specialize in that sort of repair. That is where I would spend my money if you intend to fix it. Good Luck. CAHDBIKER

I've been after my wife to keep our kids (and her!) away from the bikes parked in the garage.

Then tonight, like a dumba**, I go and put the first chip in the paint of the FLHXSE2. I was setting up the GPS mount, specifically tightening a bracket on the handlebar using a socket wrench to tighten the nuts. I was being ever so careful as to not drop anything. Sure enough, I'd forgot that that particular wrench is finicky (it constantly slips into "neutral" on its own.)

Long story short: the socket stuck on one of the nuts and the wrench slipped off and put a tiny ding in the paint on the tank near the LED fuel gauge.  Here's a pic:

Not a great image (cellphone), but you can see it at the end of my finger; it's no more than 1/16" by 1/8". Also, to me it looks like it's down to bare metal and the paint doesn't look as thick as I would expect. I could be wrong about bare metal, though.

I did a search and (among others) found the following two threads:

www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=55651.0

www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=14175.0;all

I don't know anything about paint, and am looking for useful information or advice in addtion to what is in those two (and other) threads regarding how to best touch it up. I'm guessing that more are inevitable, but this particular one is going to drive me nuts.

***IMPORTANT LESSON LEARNED: In the fu

ture, no matter how small the job, I'll be covering any of the tins that might be affected by tools or parts. Hopefully my "tragedy" will prevent others from making the same mistake!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Search your area for a high quality paint shop or custom bike painter.  That can be fixed rather easily.
