Stock bike was pinging at 3K RPM under load
« on: July 01, 2011, 01:29:23 AM »

That is how it all started! I noticed that the bike was pinging when I rolled on the throttle at 3000 - 3200 RPMs with the bone stock configuration. Off to Metal Dragon for the "Treatment" after Tahoe. New cams, FS 2" cores and the X=pipe with the TTS tuner and while we are at it the 10K service. I rode home in rush hour traffic so not much 'testing' of the new setup but it does sound better and throttle response has improved, and I think that the pinging is gone as well. The real test will be tomorrow when my wife and I are headed south towards San Diego for the weekend, I will add to this thread while I am down there with some more thoughts on how it has worked out. Heat, response, power, pinging etc... I know everybody likes to see the graphs, hear the numbers etc. I personally don't put much weight in a dyno graphs but the numbers are at or near 108HP/114TQ, I forgot what they were exactly but that sounds right. At the end of the day what matters is do you feel the power you expect, do you like how the bike responds when you wick it, are there dead spots in the throttle or RPM ranges, does it ping or run hot.

When I was telling Linda (my wife) that I just picked up the bike and I think that annoying noise is gone she asks me. "What noise did you get rid of, the sound of money in your pocket?" No respect I tell you!

108/114 sounds like another Fueling 574 cam?
Good luck and have fun with a fine running bike.
There is no better place to have work done on your bike than Jim's.
Give us a report when you get back.

Let me see if I can sum up my opinion of how the bike is running now. The power band is super wide, kicking in a couple hundred RPMs earlier at around 2800 making this a super ridable bike in real world conditions! It pulls hard all the way to the redline, not that I will be doing that very often. The 6th to 5th to 6th gear volly is a thing of the past, just twist the grip and go. Power from the red light is great, no more draging the clutch. I have plenty of umph every where in the speed and RPM ranges. No dead spots in the throttle at all, no pinging at all. Sounds great, a little loud but I will get used to it. I have spent the last 10K on a bike with a stock sound so any noise will seem loud. I didn't do much sitting in traffic so I can't comment on that aspect. Oh yeah, back to the summary opinion, I LOVE IT!!! :apple: :apple: :apple:

I couldn't leave the wife at the airport, she would have been so pissed.  :nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:
