engine light "on"
« on: June 20, 2011, 09:40:14 AM »

I was riding yesterday and my engine light came on, The bike seems to be running fine, I got out my tech. manual this morning to see how to retrieve the codes, I'm going to do that tonight, It said in the manual the dealer needs to clear the codes, is that correct or can I just disconnect the battery to clear after codes are retrieved and problem if fixed, if there is one, my 2000 SERG in stock and I ride at high elevation 9000+ ft. I had a power commander on it before dnyo-ed at sea level, but it didn't work very well at 11,000 feet where I live, stock settings worked better other than a lean pop with throttle is closed when decending a long mountain pass, anybody have any ideas or seen this before???

Go into you Electrical Diagnostic Manual and it will show you how to obtain the fault codes through your odometer and how to clear them. There are many posts here (use the search) on how to clear them and the manual will give you all the info regarding every code. I'm dealing with a P0572 code on my 09 SERG and it's pointing to the brake switch, the Electrical manual is great for this, hope it helps.

Thanks big dog, I checked it out last night, 2000 segr you pull codes different, it was code 16 battery+ voltage, I need to take my meter home and test the charging system to see if it's overcharging or a may have a bad battery. Disconnecting the battery did clear the codes, and everything seems good for now!

Same thing, turned out to be my stator. Did all the usual tests. After new battery got me going volt gauge was @ 11. Stator fixed it. How many miles on your bike? 35k here.

Mine has 37K on it.. I checked the voltage last night and it's charging @14.2V, I took it out for about a 50 mile ride and everything seems OK, was your stator problems intermittent? I plan on doing a 1500 mile ride next month through Utah and Wyoming and don't want any issues! Thanks for your response!

2000 SERG, turn key to "on" wait till fuel pump stops running... wait 1 second, turn to off position for 3 seconds, back to "on" (do this twice) check engine light will start flashing fast (3 cycles) then will start to flash codes 1 flash= #1....6 flashes= #6   code #16
when its done flashing codes it will start flashing fast again to let you know all codes have been retrieved
