GoPro Hero editing software
« on: June 23, 2011, 10:04:29 AM »

I recently bought a GoPro Hero HD camera to play around with while wake boarding, 4-wheeling, biking, etc.  It takes high-def movies in mp4 format.  I was looking for some editing software for the movies - shareware or low cost options are preferred, of course - so I can edit out dead space, or just make a compilation of good parts, etc.  Anyone have any experience or recommendations on this?  I have ZERO experience with this.

I also just purchased a GoPro and was wondering the same thing.  I found this 2011 Top Ten review.  The number one rated software was CyberLink PowerDirector.

Looks rather biased to say the least.  Based on the numbers, the ranking is based on a handful of buyers.  I'd go somewhere less biased, and check some of the rags that cover this material, before relaying on an aggregator site.

OK, since you think that site is so biased here is a link to PC Magazines review of the same software.

Dude - I never said there was anything wrong with Cyberlink? I said to check out some of the rags for an unbiased opinion and I'm glad you did.

I stated that this particular site didn't have enough buyer response to make a statistically valid analysis. Studio has been the industry standard for many years, and outsells everything out there by a long shot in the prosumer market, so their buyer stats were clearly misleading. Yes, for a low cost option Cyberlink very well could do the trick for you. I'm just glad you took the time to look a little more.

That said, if you really wanted to save some dough, you could buy last years versions of any of them for perhaps 1/2 the price. Fleabay is littered with all sorts of previous versions in the original packaging.

Good luck.

I have a goPro HD as well and use Adobe Premier. I do photography and it's interaction with Elements is great. I strip the audio and insert my music in place.

Here are some videos from a recent trip to the Texas Hill Country

I use Pinnacle Studio 12 deluxe. It works great with no conversion of format required.
