Anyone leaking tire air pressure?
« on: July 11, 2011, 12:27:55 AM »

Off on a 3 day trip, I woke after the first day to find a flat tire. Luckily I was next door to a gas station with air. Rolling the bike back and worth sevaeral times, there was no puncture found. When I tried to put air in it it wouldn't take. After scratching my head for a few minutes I found the rubber o-ring that fits inside the cap was wedged inside the valve stem around the shrader valve. After working it out I filled up with air and away I went. At two hundred miles I checked the air and was down 4 pounds (38 to 34). Stopped by a HD dealer and the tech found that o-ring right where I had found it. He said that was the problem, and it was. After rmoving the o-ring I did the rest of the trip (800 miles) without losing any air. I did loose my chrome cap.

You might also give your valve stem just a little bump. They have been known to get loose and just barely leak. Those rubber o rings are not real reliable after they have been dislodged like that either. Had that problem on trailers before-------------Livestock trailers , not bike trailers , ---------don't own one and don't use em!

I've experienced this very thing with the fancy chrome MOCO valve caps.  I now stick with the standard black plastic valve caps...
