Cam installation tools?
« on: August 01, 2011, 01:06:07 PM »

Cams seem to be a great bang for the buck (looking at Andrews 54) until I begin to look at the price of the cam and inner bearing install/removal tools.  Seems like one can easily spend $300 or more for a set of tools with limited future use.  I have seen posts mentioning other, non-HD tools for perhaps half that price but still expensive...

I am working on a '10 110 engine, that I believe comes with the HD 255 cams.  I wonder if the factory has already installed the inner bearing?

Suggestions for tool needed and suppliers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Rusty

I buy from George's Garage (tools).  Mention CVO member and he will give 5% off..

Most people change the inner bearings as the factory needle bearing is inferior to the aftermarket one.

Thanks for the pointer to Georges' Garage.  Looks like tools are about 1/2 the HD price, no surprise.  Which tools are "necessary" for a cam job.

Bearing removal and install are clearly needed.  Not sure about the cam install block, seems they should mesh up in the outer case ok.  Also not sure about the oilpump alignment tools- not particularly expensive in the grand scheme of things.

Thanks again,
Rusty
