Need help in Maryland
« on: June 29, 2011, 11:27:09 AM »

I imported my 1990 tourglide from the UK and followed the rules about putting it through an ICI and RI to get it through all the regulations. I have the bike but the company I used haven't sent the paperwork or the set of keys they had. After many phone calls, emails and promises to send everything, they no longer answer emails and the memeory on their answer machine is full. So my problem is A) Are they still in business and just being a**holes or have they done a runner! B) all I have is the UK registration document saying I own the bike, what do I need to register the bike here in the U.S.A. The bike didn't have an original HD vin plate due to powdercoaters blasting it off but the vin number is still clearly stamped into the frame and the ICI put stickers on the frame stating it conforms to U.S. regulations. Is there anyone in the area that has a way of checking to see if the company is still there, would really appreciate some info as I am nearly 800 miles away from them.
The company concerned is

USSpecs LLC
121 Northway Drive
Havre de Grace
MD 21211

Thanks, Dave

Dave,
I found their web page via Google but it says it is 'Under Construction'. The phone number given is 443-502-2331. Nobody answers. Seems a bit suspicious.  :(

Hi Jerry

The website has been saying that for a while, they don't answer emails and it's been pure luck getting hold of them by phone. The latest was that they were sending my keys and paperwork nearly 3 weeks ago, and now the answer machine is full I have no chance of getting any info. I know that their office is in Maryland but the workshop where the bike was is in Pennsylvania, but I don't have an address for that. I'll have to keep trying as I think I need the paperwork they have to get a title in Wisconsin.

Dealer can cut your keys off the Vin # as far as the title was the bike registered in the US in your name before?  If so you should be able to get a duplicate i would think.

Good Luck

Thanks Chains

I have a spare set of keys so thats not a problem, I only have my UK registration document, everything else was meant to come from US Specs. I asked what I needed down at the local DMV and got no help except for "call Madison, we don't deal with imported vehicles" so that's my next step. I've owned it from new and have all the UK certificates and bill of sale but it's never been registered here in the U.S.

Not that this helps much, but Havre de Grace is not too far off the PA line in northern Maryland.  So it could be possible to have offices in HdG and a shop in PA.  Possible, but not real reasonable.

Called the DMV in Madison, if I don't get the paperwork from USSpecs I have a big piece of art sitting in the garage! I will not be able to register it in Wisconsin, I even suggested that I take it to another ICI/RI and start again.....that's not possible either as it can only be permanently imported once. Will be interesting to see if anyone starts chasing me to see why it hasn't been registered or perhaps I will run it round on the UK plates and see what happens.
