Heat on passengers right leg
« on: July 02, 2011, 12:07:12 AM »

Just installed x pipe tts. Left stock mufflers for now. 100*
much less heat on my leg. Feel that seat heat.  But bsr's
right leg now is hot. Boot is VERY warm. Just like our 08
Ultra. Bike runs just great. Noticed it starts easier. Just wondering
if those restrictive stock muffs are holding back enough heat
to explain the switch in who's feelin' the heat.

You can put the Fullsac baffles in easy enough and much cheaper than changing the muffers. :2vrolijk_21:

If that isn't enough and your wife is heat sensative more than most, Jim (hd-dude) wrapped the exhaust on my wife's bike, then put the heat shields back on, even after removing the cat and Fullsac baffles....now she's able to ride it at a bearable temp. :2vrolijk_21:

My wife and I share the same issue an I never thought of wrapping the header pipe as you suggested, interesting idea - thanks for the tip   :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Will look into wrapping the pipe. It's over 100* and the lowers are now off. Worked well on the 08 ultra. Will just keep that air movin'. And ride early.

Keep us in the loop on wrapping the headers!

I spoke with a couple HD techs and some custom shop folks around town and they were pretty intrigued with the idea. It seems like such a logical idea. Exhaust pipe surface temps on the rear exhaust where it comes out of the motor can get as high a 1400 degrees. HD tech in town said he used a point and shoot surface temp thermometer to verify this. He said he uses this technique as a quick check to verify how the bike is running when a customer brings a bike in that is said to be running hot.

I thin you're on to something!  :2vrolijk_21:I see patented pre-wrapped pipes with shields in your future!
