Hi sorry if this question has been asked before
« on: May 27, 2012, 12:39:11 PM »

Hi I have noticed from the day I picked up my 2012 Street Glide CVO that there is a rattle between 2000-3000 rpm I have asked at the dealer if this is normal they keep telling me it is the primary making the noise and It is not a problem. I am taking it in for its first dealer inspection this Wednesday I have a few issues but nothing too bad.

Yes, this is typical of at least the CVO 110" motors.  I cannot speak for the earlier 103" motors.

I've had an '08 SERK and now have an '09 SERG.  Both have the same rattles at 2300 to 3200 rpms.  Some have different rpm ranges where the noise is worse.  I asked a HD service tech at the Sturgis bike display back in '08 about it and he said that it was the harmonics of the valve train making the noise.

Some on here have said that after changing out to a different profile cam and valve train, that the noise has gone away or just a faint noise sometimes.

Hope this helps you out.

Don't panic, take it to your local dealer and leave it for a few days.  You will have a rattle and several other problems when you get it back.   :2vrolijk_21:

Only solution is louder pipes! I think they all rattle and sound like something is coming loose, usually something does. It is unnerving, especially when on a long trip. As an engineer, I know if things are rattling they will eventually beat each other up until something fails. I wonder sometimes how much longer I can tolerate the quirks of this engine and if I should go back to a Beemer. Guess its the moxy that a Harley has that almost no other bike can pull off that keeps me on it.
