2 into 1 exhaust?
« on: August 14, 2011, 10:56:28 AM »

Does anyone have a pic of a cvo street glide with a 2 into 1 exhaust? I'm thinking about doing this but am worried it will look stupid with the extended bags cutout for the exhaust...

it does look fairly stupid - for my taste at least. But if I remember correctly someone on this board intalled a fake one on the other side, just can't find the thread about it ...

You can always get a "dummy" (nonfunctional) pipe for the left side if you want to keep the balanced look/fill in the opening in the saddlebag on the left. Several exhaust systems offer the dummy pipe.

Without the extended bag, the 2/1 pipe looks OK, though still not quite right to my eye.  But with the extended bags, it would look like something fell off the bike if the left muffler was missing.  With the selection of nice header pipes nowadays, I'm not sure there's a big performance advantage for the 2 into 1 pipes like there used to be.  But if you just like 'em, there's always the ghost pipe option, as mentioned.  D&D would be one.  It's just more $$$ than some other options.

I have this same setup, D&D, with the ghost pipe. I love it. No one has noticed that it is not connected. The D&D is a little loud but not that bad. I am real happy with it.

D&D Fat cat with Ghost Pipe on the left. Unless you get underneath or look close it is hard to see the crossover is a stub.
I tend to wipe out the right side once in a while to keep them both clean. One black and one clean looks odd.
"Quiet" baffle on the right. Sounds good to me, without it would break glass in the neighborhood.

I like the cutaway that flows with the angle of the bags...

I have a D and D fatcat with the ghost pipe. After going through many mufflers and pipes on my Ultra last year, I have found the sound.  I love it!  It sounds great to me, and it performs very well.

I have the wrapped performance baffle and it sounds deep and mean.  Many people comment on the good sound.  They sell it in unwrapped as well and it is loud, but I have only heard it while standing next to the bike, not riding it  and it  sounds bad a$$.   I am used to my wrapped one, and it doesn't seem loud to me anymore, particularly now that I have upgraded my stereo so it is very loud and clear, so there are times I wish I had the unwrapped when I am in a more aggressive mood.  I bet it sounds awesome while riding the bike around town, but I am sure it would get old on a trip. They have a quieter one for stock engines ( maybe smaller than 110 as well)  the concentric baffle.

As to the ghost pipe being clean inside because it is not passing any exhaust , I took the suggestion of someone else on the forum and painted the inside of it with paint and it looks great.  They said to clean both sides with brake cleaner first  and paint the inside of both of them so they would match and they were right.  I used high temperature black from an auto parts store.  It is relatively flat

Here is what I used:

and here is what it looks like:
