Surprise-Bike refuses to start
« on: June 02, 2013, 07:26:02 AM »

2008 FLhtcuse3 refused to start.  Rode all day Saturday. Stopped in the magic mart and when I came  out to restart, the engine spins over but would not crank. I could hear fuel pump loading up as normal when I turned the ignition on. I removed the gas cap to see if  vacume was the problem but all was well. I pulled the plugs and did have spark. Still the bike would not fire and still wont. I have owned the bike/trike since new and it is bone stock even down to the original mufflers. My fob is working fine. Checked fuses the best that I could and saw no breaks. Any ideas??

Are you saying you hers the starter spinning but not cranking the motor? If that is the case it's the starter.

Im pretty certain I know what the problem is, first remove the fuel cap, then reach under the tank and pull up on your chrome ring for the fuel line. While the chrome ring is up pull the fuel line out ( there will be a small amount of gas ) once the fuel line is out rotate the chrome ring a little pull it back up and reinstall the fuel line until it pops in. It should start.

If it does start you will need to replace the fuel supply line from the tank to the injector rail. What happens is over time the 3 ball bearings pinch the fuel line end going into the tank preventing the fuel from flowing. I also have a 2008 model bike and have dealt with this issue before. I think the supplier used soft metal and over time vibration over time causes the end to be pinched

Harley changed the part numbers

The old HD part # 62905-08
new HD # 61208-10

Yes, starter turns engine over with spark at plugs but no ignite.  I will look at the suggestion on the fuel line from tank. Thanks.

You were right on FLTR2008TRIKE.  Now to verify, will I need to replace the fitting that screws into the tank as well as the chrome sleeve and hose?   Thanks.

Tom,

How much trouble is it for me to change out the fuel line kit?  Does tank have to come off?  I can do small jobs and do all of my maintenance.

Thanks,

Jim

Jim I sent you a email with a scan of the 3 instruction pages from the kit for you to read. But no you do not have to remove the fuel tank.

Old jet engine adage!  Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow!  You have suck, you probably have squeeze, all you need is BANG!  Has to be a fuel delivery problem.
