Also changed radios as part of this task. Wanted a radio with a rear auxiliary input and needed it to be Sony so it would work with the existing handlebar control adapter. There wasn't one that also had red displays. And couldn't abide the Sony blue display against the red illuminated instruments on the bike

.
If changing the radio also wanted one of the "digitial media players" that Porthole discovered awhile back. No CD player. Instead it swallows the iPhone or iPod inside the radio and controls the player directly. So no more skipping CD and a lot less moving parts.
Gaining the rear aux port was a pain in the ass though. Sony makes something called an XA-300 auxiliary input controller. It lets several external devices feed the radio but shoe horning this unit inside the fairing was a chore.
Finally all in and hooked up though. Plays well. And no aux cord in the front of the radio. The radio does have a USB port up front though for memory sticks.
The old radio was silver. What can't be seen well here is the dark black housing that surrounds the radio that is the adapter to put the smaller head unit in the hole for the Harley radio. Not only does the new radio just look generally cooler it looks much better blending in to the dark fairing and not contrasting with that mounting adapter piece.
