Bub 7 Stealth Mufflers vs. Fullsac 1.75 Cores
« on: October 04, 2011, 12:56:57 PM »

I recently completed Fullsac CVO Stage I (X-Pipe, TTS Mastertune with 2.0 CVO Power Cores). Really like the power increase and initially thought the sound levels were just right. Pipes seem to be getting louder over time and now I need to make a change. Options I am considering are the Fullsac 1.75 cores and the Bub 7 Stealth slip-ons. Any advice or experience with these two applications appreciated. Thanks.

While the Bubs 7 Stealth are quieter than many exhaust systems, I don't think they're as quiet as their name implys.

I was considering them (just to have something quieter than I had previously run) but ended up going with the Fullsac 1.5 baffles.  Just this summer I had an opportunity to hear the Bub Stealth on a 96" motor (not even a 110").....I was surprised at how loud it was (a bit more than my Fullsacs).

Since I was overhearing a conversation between two people unkown to me, I asked the guy "did I hear you say that those are the Bub Stealth mufflers?"  He assured me that they were and that they're much quieter than other exhausts.

You may want to try the Fullsac 1.75 until you get a chance to hear the Stealth mufflers first hand.  Certainly a much cheaper option. :2vrolijk_21:

SE Fatshotz have 2" cores and a deep tone, not too loud either.
My friend has them on his 2010 Ultra Ltd with 103" and the sound is really nice.
I have a 12 Ultra CVO on order and my build will have the Fullsac x headpipe with SE Fatshotz mufflers, along with ported 10:1 heads and Woods TW5 cam. My builder recommends these as he does over 100 builds a year and says they produce great power for minimal but quality sound increase.
I also hear great reviews about the Fullsac cores, but have not heard them personnaly, so I will go with what I've heard and know that works.

Here's another thought.  When you installed the Fullsac 2" cores, what did you do with the stock muffler packing?  Seems that the only thing making a muffler louder over time is that the packing is getting blown out or you're getting more sensitive.  Anyway, if you reinstalled the packing, you may want to check it.  If you took it out, you may want to reinstall it.  Just something to consider.

Thanks for the responses.

The packing was reinstalled with the cores. I did notice a few strands of packing coming out of one of the pipes. I will check to see if the position of the packing has shifted. I was also thinking about trying a different packing material and I'm researching sources from previous threads on this forum.

For the record the Fullsac 2.0 cores sound nice and are a significant sound improvement over stock. I just don't want to have "ringing" in my ears after riding and listening to my J&M Rokkers. That is driving me to check out other options that will provide the right balance.

Try this....  this gentleman was endorsed here from a previous thread, I have used Bruce's packing twice and very pleased with results and will not burn out over time.

"Techmat will give you more control of the sound due to the less dense structure and will not burn out any faster than SilcoSoft.  Techmat was developed for this type application where SilcoSoft was designed to control heat up to 2000 degrees for industrial machine applications.  Techmat is tested to 1300 degrees, neither will burn and the test simply means the efficiency does not get any better over 1300 degrees.

Our normal stocking sizes are 10" x 38" and 20" x 38".  We can cut just about any size up to 60" wide in the Techmat."

Mr D...how do you install the packing?  I left in it when I put the 2" Fullsac cores in my stock muffs, but it seems like mine are getting louder as well.  I know it's hard to measure, but does this packing make a significant difference in noise levels?

TC.....Upon Removal of the baffle, un wrap the OE packing which had a spaghetti look  :confused5:
The TechMat is a dense blanket type compared to the OE packing. I just measured the amount needed to wrap the baffle with cut with sharp scissors and should be good to go. sound level seems tighter, some of the highs are gone  :2vrolijk_21:

Talked to Fullsac and was informed the sound level difference between the 1.75 and the 2.0 is negligible and the 2.0 has a deeper tone. I really want to keep existing setup for looks and performance and avoid the requirement for remapping and buying new mufflers. I am going to focus on packing material solution.

Ordered the Techmat from Bruce (placed order on Ebay). Bruce was very helpful after explaining my issue to reduce sound levels and I went with two 1/4 inch 20x38 sheets. This configuration is less dense and should do well in sound absorption properties (hopefully just enough). I will report results after installation.

I have the Bub 7 Stealth mufflers on the 2" head pipes and couldn't be happier with the noise leverl.   At any speed they are very comfortable and the performance to me is better than the Rineharts that I gave away. I would recommend them any time.  They look good too. I have them following the lines of the saddle bags.

Mr D...How many times did you wrap the Techmat material around the core? I purchased the 1/4 inch thickness material and wrapped it three times around the core for a total thickness of 3/4 inch. This thickness seemed similar to the OEM packing setup. Will check sound impact when I reinstall mufflers tonight.
