info michelin commander II - 130/60/19
« on: September 10, 2014, 10:16:44 AM »

As you all know or might not know the stock dunlop 130/60/19 tire is a subpar "performing" tire. yeah it might last and might be fine for going down the road but if you really like to dig in there are better options out there. Michelin commander II being one of them. probably the best tire I have ridden on in the past 20 yrs and I've tried them all. That being said michelin doesn't make a 130/60/19 yet. so I emailed corporate and they said they recognize the need and are getting it into research and development. sounds almost like a standard answer to me. If anyone is wanting to upgrade to the best tire IMO I would also write a quick letter to corporate and express your needs as well. The more letters the faster production would happen I would hope.

X2, would love to have a chance to try them. Will have to look to see if a front tire is available from Michelin for the 09 SERG, haven't looked into it yet.

An 18" front tire is available in the Commander II, and I have one on my SERGU; it's the rear 18" that isn't.

The front tire is a 130/70B18  63H, and according to the latest size chart on the Michelin website they do indeed have a Commander II in that size.  They still don't have anything for the rear however.

Perfect Jerry and everyone, thanks for the info. I'm not one to mix brands and not sure if people do, but would it be recommended to put a Michelin on the front and still use the Dunlop on the back, at least in such time as a rear Michelin comes available? I take tires seriously and would not want to get into a situation where two rubber compounds could cause handling problems.

I was a little worried about that myself, but decided to try it and see.  Now have 5k miles on the pair, and haven't found any problems.  Have ridden in light rain, heavy rain, and Niagara Falls w/o difficulty.

My brother purchased front and rear Michelin Commander IIs for his 2011 Ultra Classic Limited, he did get double the mileage of the Dunlap, he also liked it, however I saw it was cupping. He may not check his pressures enough, so I purchased one for the front. I have not had any issues, however when it came to me needing a new rear I went to the Metzler. I now am running two different tires, no problems and I ride the turns as hard as I can. I think I will update the front to the Metzler 888 to match the rear very soon. Again, other than the cupping issue have not seen problems with the Michelin. I really liked Metzlers on my sport bikes, so i will probably keep trying their tires.

Stupid question here. What size Rim or wheel width is required to use that tire? I have a regular 19" Dyna Thunderstar wheel.
