Passenger peg falls off
« on: May 15, 2012, 03:08:04 PM »

So as I am riding solo, I hear a clink and then see a flash of chrome in my mirror a one of my pegs fell off.  Had my bike  serviced about a week before but never thought they would have messed with the pegs.

Which service did you have performed?  If it was one that calls for checking critical fasteners (I think all of them do), you might want to have a chat with that dealership about their responsibility for that now missing part.  Between them and H-D, someone owes you a new peg (I assume you are still in warranty).

BTW, based on my and many other folks experiences, I would take it upon myself to go over ALL the fasteners on a new bike and once again at 5k miles.  Dealerships in general seem to be very lax in actually performing all those nice checklist items they charge so dearly for.  And Harley won't win any industry awards for great torque control in production either.

Well I finally made it into the dealer, about a month later.  Spoke with the warranty guy and much to my surprise he said no problem its our techs fault that he didn't check to be sure everything was tight.  I was ready for them to say it wasn't their fault.  Even the service manager came over and got involved to make sure it was taken care of.  30 minutes later and I am back on the road and happy.

Now if they could fix them so they don't keep falling down!
I've replaced the spring washer(?) inside thinking that was the issue and they still keep falling.  :confused5:

Was doing a little detailing yesterday and went to wipe down the left passenger peg and it vibrated lose to the point where it was about to fall off.....750 miles on the bike!

I guess that is why we should be doing our pre-ride check list

I put a chrome bolt through the peg and tightened the hell out of it. Problem solved!
