Fuel check valve torque spec
« on: October 04, 2011, 04:21:32 PM »

Can anyone tell me what the fuel check valve torque spec for a 2000 SERG?

Now for the rest of the story... my bike was idling low (sometimes) and fine others.  At times it would simply die at a stop.  Then it would run OK sometimes and then sometime not; acceleration was sluggish sometimes and other times seemed very responsive.  I couldn't pin it down.  I posted several topics of what I thought it was, but nothing really ever seemed to do the trick.  I read here, I believe that it could be that the fuel filter needed replacing and since the bike turned 20K, thought it was a good time to do so.  While pulling the fuel pump mechanism out of the tank I noticed a pin hole peeing gas out of the side of the outlet hose from the fuel pump to the check valve.  Now that didn't look right.  I assume there should be constant pressure there, and could be problamatic when the tank went more empty than full.  Subsequently, I'm replacing the hose which as noted attaches to the check valve, which comes in a "kit", you can't purchase just the replacement hose.  That's a $50 dollar fuel line, not to mention the $90 fuel filter "kit" originally purchased.  Anyway, I hope this bit of information may help others and then back to my original question, can someone tell me what the torque spec is for the check valve?

Thanks all and ride safe!

Ichavez, I hope this helps. (see attachement)I got it from the service manuel for my 09 SEUC. If it doesn't look the same I would suggest that you put a piece of tape on the tank, and on the check valve, mark them both and when you reinstall line up the marks and you should be okay. Sometimes I also start with a low setting on my torque wrench and keep adjusting up in small  incriments until it clicks. That doesn't mean the torque is right. It just establishes a safety zone in relation to the mark I have made. CAHDBIKER

ichavez. the alienment has nothing to do with pressure and the attachement is for later models not 2000 m&m's
do or have a fuel pressure check done. then move to scanning the ecm. it's the only way to find the problem
with out spinning your wheels(so to speak).  good luck.    axil

Axil, thanks for your reply and although cahdbiker's attachement is not for my 2000 serg, I only used it for the check valve torque spec.  But, you have to agree the check valve fuel hose should not have a hole in it and did require replacement.

I did the replacement tonight and ran it around the block, probably not enough to prove whether it corrected the issue or not, but it did seem to idle better.  Suppose only time will tell... :nixweiss:
