In my time on the road and my riding buddies have all had good things to say about HD on the road  :2vrolijk_21:
I myself also have a good relationship with my dealer NYC HD.

I have had delaers keep a guy over to fix my bike on the road.  I bought them a pizza from next door when they got done.

My dealer keeps a mechanic in the shop on Saturday and Sunday for emergency situations.

2 Stories:

1) While at Sturgis in 02 I let one of those independent guys in a tent downtown change my oil. He had Hd oil which I was running (01 FXDL). Much to my horror he took a pump on a drill and sucked out the oil thru the dipstick hole? I immediately said something and he told me he does not remove drain plugs because they could be stripped or damaged and he didn't want to take the blame! BS the guy probably cross threaded somebodies already and had to fix it. My Thought? Why change the frigging oil and leave all the contaminants in the the bottom of you oil pan! Da! Waste of time and money! Should have left the oil in it and rode it home! Never use and independent again!
2) Little Sturgis 05 Battery took a crap in the low rider. I was at Bud's HD in Evansville, IN. first thing Monday morning. They took me right in and got me out in less than an hour. Bravo !

Face Out!

Com on Face......you say that like a dealership couldn't or wouldn't do the same thing.  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:

That sounds like some of the stuff that caused me to quit using a dealership and start using an independant only. :2vrolijk_21:

By the way Jim......my factory warranty is up this month, so you can start doing all my repairs. :2vrolijk_21:

One year in Sturgis I tried an oil change tent and asked to see the oil filters they use and glad I did as there was only three holes and was able to choose a different one at no extra charge.

Way I look at it is on the road you have no way of knowing. Rather not take chances I prefer a dealer ( even thought I know thats not always great) You can always complain to the moco. May or may not help. Some independant screws up your bike what recourse do you have if they say its not there fault. Yes I know you can take them to court. My favortie thing ($35K & counting in divorce lawyer fees later). Also not basing on one trip to an indy. Just my road trip example! If I were a 1000 word a min. typest I could fill this forum with horror stories from crappy work to Way over charging people. Everybody has different experiences. I guess I have been lucky with dealers. Have been to the owner of a couple shops with problems and to the moco and had good out come with all. I would use a indy if I heard good things and knew people who were getting good service. How ever in this area I live in I don't know where that shop is. EX: my buddy paid big bucks for cvo hop dyno etc... Told me about this great indy. Next 5 times I saw him his bike was having problems. Now He is prasing another shop that fixed what the first one did. I don't know its a crap shoot unless you do it yourself? JMHO :nixweiss:

Checked with my service manager today and he said St. Paul HD strives to give folks riding through priority service whenever possible. He also said the moco gives faster shipping on parts going to repair a bike in need of repair while on a trip.
