Twolanerider,
Did you have to adjust the gain on the amp?  What is it set at now?  I think I am going to change out my JL Audio VR525 CXIs for a set of these new speakers.  I blew one of my JLs the other day.

Thanks

Water,
The best answer I can offer is that I messed with it a bit.  Reason being is that any speakers (that have any output at all) so sound much different with fairing off versus having the fairing back on the bike.  Current setting is roughly splitting the difference between half and three quarters on its little knob.

When the amp was originally installed I tweaked it a couple times and rode the bike around a bit in between.  This time I wasn't that energetic.  Just set the fairing on and off loose in the garage, used my finely calibrated (not) ears, and ended up with it very close to what it was to begin with.  One thing noticed right off the bat just for comparison is that while riding the radio's volume bar is now 2-3 bars lower than it was previously and at that level I'm getting sound that is as loud and clearer than it was previously.

I recieved my new Hawg Wired CX504-70 speakers tonight.  I had them installed within an hour of getting them.  Now I just need to get the engine back together so I can see how they sound on the road.  In the garage they sound a little better than my old JL.  Hopefully I can keep from blowing these.  I have yet to find a speaker, other than the original stock speakers running from the head unit, that I can't blow.  I blew three sets of the Hog Tunes connected to the factory stereo.  I blew one of my JL 525s connected to the Hawg Wired Amp.  I guess that is what I get for trying to jam at 80 mph on the interstate with ear plugs in.  Hopefully this is the last set of speakers I will be buying.
