Rear axel bad on'10
« on: October 21, 2011, 07:53:38 PM »

Rear tire was cupping bad at 10000 miles so I was gonna take itg off and get a new one.Lossened everything up and axel would not come out. Long story short I had to use air chisel to knock  it through.Axel and sleeve were rusted up like they had been in salt water .Bike is still in warranty so I called the dealer and explained it and of course they never heard of that problem and would not help me  out.First Harley I have owned since 1973 when they were junk and now I wonder why the hell I bought another one.

If the bike is under warranty they will fix it. If not simply find another dealer. Good luck

Any sign of anti-seize wiped on the axle/bearing surfaces?  It's unfortunate you pretty much had let the dealer off the hook for the warranty repair by knocking it out yourself.  If the dealer was so willing to avoid a warranty problem if he could you're lucky to have discovered this about him on such a relatively smaller issue though.

The rear axle assembly on my 2008 FXDSE cratered taking my brake caliper , bearings, etc. with it and it was assembled exactly to H-D specification by the factory !  >:(

It was correctly reassembled with an additional spacer that H-D does not call for.
