If I remember correctly, it had some damage but was a well thought out modification.

In pictures have (now) see the one AJ just posted.  Also seen a red 2000 SERG with a hack.  In person have seen a Milk Dud Seuc and a purple 02 SERK with hacks.

The SERK was just way too much purple for my tastes.  The others all are good looking rigs.  Everyone tells me that bikes with sidecars are a bitch to ride and will wear you out on an otherwise moderate day.  But they can make a nice looking combination.

they are only difficult to ride if you make the giant mistake of trying to leave the bike so it will operate solo

if you put in a proper tree and have it aligned properly you can set the cruise at 80 and hold the bars with two fingers. you do have to pay attention - they can be rolled over if you have no sense.

all the guys who complain about the effort are trying to ride with a solo front end

either have a sidecar bike - or a solo bike - don't even think about trying to do both - it will really wear you out.

that said - if you only ride slow in town it doesn't make much difference - but if you want to ride at speed for any distance - do the whole thing and make it drive right

its also worth finding a panhead headlight sidecar spacer - they still fit right on and make it so the headlight lines up right.

Maybe why this outfit seems to offer the frontend mods
Liberty Sidecars
http://www.libertysidecars.com/

With my arthritic knees, the day will come when I no longer feelcomfortable holding up two wheels when stopped.
Not a fan of a trike, which is why i look at things like this.

Also as you mentioned, I would certaily convert the frontend.

i use a liberty front tree

converting the front end to a tri glide front end is much cheaper than the liberty tree, but the liberty tree provides less steering effort. & since hd quit making sidecars the best option is a liberty sidecar - they are very good looking, have a softer suspension, more options [except they dont offer intercom and speakers but using hd parts this can be done] and excellent paint match. liberty was my second choice and after the fact id say that liberty would be my first choice over a used hd unit.

if the front end is changed to a small trail and the alignment is right they are actually a bit more stable than a trike and they have more room than a trike. the ride of the sidecar is just like a 50 caddy - smooth and floats. however if the rider is jerky with the throttle the sidecar body will rock forward and back quite a bit

I rode sidecars for more years than I care to remember.  We converted over to a trike in 2004 and I can't think of any circumstance under which I would go back to a sidecar.  The missus wasn't interested in a new sidecar, she wanted to be up on the passenger seat behind me so she could see all of the scenery.  Personally I thing that the trikes are much more sporty and way easier to ride quickly.  Remember, just my opinion ;D

i think i agree - but my wife can only do about 10 miles on the back of the bike before her back is done for the month

in the sidecar she can ride all day and is fine

basically its the 50'cad ride in the thing that makes her day better

but if her back was better im sure she would rather have a trike
