Antenna relocation?
« on: October 01, 2011, 08:46:23 AM »

I have the 09 SERG with a king TP and would like to relocate the antenna to the TP.  I attempted to use the harley adapter but it rubes the saddle bags.  I want it to be detachable so what now?  I guess I could cut the zip tie and pull the cable and then retie each time but is that what everyone else is doing?  I do not want to install the antenna in the fairing though.  Thanks in advnace for the help.

I eliminated mine altogether and went w/ an Antenna Concepts in the fairing. Noticed no change in reception.

I did the same thing to mine and used this kit. 76326-00A. In the instructions part #7 is the piece the will allow you to keep your stock antenna wire in place and plug your TP wire into the other.

I remember putting a piece of soft side velcro on the lid to protect it. Almost can't see it.

Well I had the same issue but here is what I did , I did not want to install a hidden antenna in the fairing and then I thought why not install the hidden antenna in the tour pak !Fiber glass is fiber glass the antenna does not know if its under the fairing or in the tour pak right?  Why not I said , you only really need it is when the tour pak is on right. So I had installed a wiring harness to the tour pak for its lights and had tapped in an accessory plug as well a while ago so I have power for the antenna already.I installed the antenna which comes with double sided tape and mounted it on the back pannel of the tour pak.Hooked up a two prong plug and pluged into acc. power that I can activate with the acc. switch.Made a hole just big enough to run the atenna cable through and here is the best part , you unscrew the existing antenna cable from its left side mount, run the new antenna cable from the tour pack and just plug it into the cable it does just snap in.The radio guy that I went to said to do that and if you wanted to put a piece of electrical tape around just to hold it in place . thats it ! I went for a ride today and I was getting good FM reception no problem.Saved me from taking the front fairing apart to. When I take my tour pack off I just screw my original antenna back on simple simple. For me this works great as I only put my tour pak on when I go on my long trips.. So really there is nothing that says you have to install the antenna in your fairing. I hope this helps you.

Serg18,

I think someone on here used the "long whip" one on his ultra w/out the tourpak and had made some bends to the antenna laying it along the frame of his of his scooter. He said that the reception was just fine.

Just a thought.

Good Luck w/ your project.

I have a CB/FM/Weather (and in one) antenna and needed it to be on the outside of the bike. I'll take some pics and post them as some as I can.

05 SEEG's came with a bike mounted antenna mount and a adapter that you used when the supplied chopped tourpak was on. Have dealer pull up exploded view of the kit, I had one of those bikes and it was pretty slick deal. Same antenna used on bike you just switched it from bike mount which you used when t/p was off bike to tourpak mount when t/p was on the bike.
