Along with keeping the mushroom off punches, always be aware of grinder wheels and carbide grinding bits. When I started as a Caterpillar mechanic 35 years ago I remember a safety movie we had to watch. It was where a guy got a piece of metal in his eye and they filmed how they took it out!!! :o Yuk! Made me a believer of safety glasses and in them days we had to knock out master track pins with a 20 lb sledge and pin hammer. Have had and seen many instances where even with properly ground hammers a chunk of steel would fly off and get ya. Even had a piece lodge into my safety glasses one time. Thank God the tracks now bolt together! ;D Only get one set of eyes...

The Cat dealership I worked for made safety glasses manditory at least 20 years ago.  Yeah we saw that film also-during lunch of all times.  Way too graphic for some, couple of guys winked out-lol.  Firm believer in safety glasses and face shield for the tricky stuff or grinding.  Got a few scars from the shortcuts but still have all the digits.

When I used a cutoff wheel or other grinding / cutting power tool I always wear safety glasses and a shield. This combo Helped save a friend who had a cutting wheel come apart and hit his shield. No eye damage but still received a bad lower lip cut. Keeping the mushrooms of is a great idea. I may start to use the double safety devices all the time. Thanks for keeping safety in our minds!!!
