Problems with my 2011 SESG
« on: October 15, 2011, 11:04:20 PM »

I'm new to the 110" engine, but it feels like the bikes tries to stall when I first rev the engine. Almost like it's missing a stroke. My bike is bone stock, with just over a 1000 miles on it. It's does this anytime I stop at a red light or stuck in traffic. Has anyone else noticed this? Will a turner help the response?

Has your bike done this since new?  What's your dealer say?  While it's possible your issue is tuning related, I'd suspect an intake or exhaust leak first.  And yes, any stock bike would benefit from installation of a tuning device and professional tune.

Does it do it even when the bike is relatively cold?

IMO, one of the best things about a good tune is better throttle response and drivability.  From my point of view, the stock setup has a bit of throttle lag when taking off from a standstill. It's the throttle by wire that gives it that characteristic, I suppose.  But even so, it should not feel like it's about to totally stall out.  As Scott said, you could have an intake/exhaust leak...see what the dealer says.  Maybe they won't tell you "it's normal".

My bike did this too.... actual would belch and then die..... so I got a tuner changed the exhaust, then downloaded a new map... that was 2800 miles ago and the problem went away.... I think you will find that the bike is just too lean from the factory.... so get a tuner and get the motor some more fuel....   ::)

Then ride it like you stole it!!

Yes my bike has done it since it was new I noticed it on the ride home, the problem with the dealership is that I'm in Korea till next month so it's hard for me to be able to talk to the dealership about it. I plan on taking it to a U.S. dealership next month. I guess I'm not use to the throttle by wire yet. Hopefully the tuner and pipes will help.

My bike has V&H exhaust and the HD tuner. I never had it dyno tuned, it has a map download. I have good power and great milage so I don't want to mess with it. However I have noticed when I get stuck in traffic or the bike gets hot I really have to work the throttle and clutch to get going from a stop.

My bike also would stall.  New exhaust and a tune fixed it.

if the bike is warm it will kill the back cylinder if you are at a idle..you have to come above idle to kick the rear cylinder back in

Not when the bike is warm.  The bike has to be very hot before the heat management system kicks in and kills the rear cylinder.

You can over ride the rear cylinder kill and that solves the problem. That was the first thing I did. That option does not work well in my opinion. All of my friends have turned that off because it causes more good than bad. Runs better with it off.
