Adding RCA output jacks to your stock head unit
« on: November 24, 2011, 03:35:37 PM »

I have seen the excellent post by hd-dude on moving the AUX input to the rear of the head unit but I am wondering if anyone has ever added RCA outputs and done a similar write up? Winter is coming and I will have plenty of time to tare back into my head unit so I was thinking about giving this a try.

Thanks, Craig

On the late model 06+ radios Iron Cross audio can add the pre-amp level outputs to your radio.

Thanks for the link. I know that Iron Cross can add the pre-amp outputs but its something I would like to give a try myself if I could.

Good luck with your project.  Here's what the Iron Cross Audio pre-amp outputs look like:

If you can do better, please post a "how to."

It's a bit different than the rear aux in that it requires multiple component changes on the output side of the D to A converter to get the right voltage on the pre-amp without inducing any of ignition noise.

We're actually on our second version of this mod (higher output voltage) and have recently added a 12v amp trigger.

Good luck

If I were you, I would just sent it Iron Cross and be done with it. They are qualified to do it any why frustrate yourself?  Can't be worth that. And you can screw something up.  Just send it to them.   I bet you will be glad you did.   :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks for the info. That might be more work than I was wanting to do if you are needing to change out components. I was hoping it would be a relatively simple operation for someone who is comfortable with soldering, desoldering, as well as basic work on circuit boards. With all the money I am spending on other upgrades on the bike this winter that might have to wait until next year.
