Garage Door Opener-will this work?
« on: September 04, 2012, 05:09:32 PM »

I did not receive the garage door opener on my 06 FLHTCUSE.

I have a F2P module in the garage.

Will the F2P module communicate with the Harley system installed on my bike?

I could try and program it to work and see what happens, but I figure someone here has already done the legwork.

If they are not compatible, do I have to buy the entire system from Harley?

The one I put in my pocket works much better than the one that came with my bike, easier also

I should elaborate.

I used my bike remote and sometimes it worked but many times I am sitting in front of a closed door flashing my high beams at a non responding door

so my solution was to put a remote in my pocket, always opens now

All you should need is the $60.00 receiver from HD.  Mine has always worked, and who wants  to carry anything else in your pocket.  Set up is very easy.

If I read the first post correctly, he already has the Flash2Pass receiver mounted in his garage.  So he can either buy the Flash2Pass transmitter for the bike, or he could buy the Harley receiver for the garage.  I don't believe the two systems are compatible, but he can always contact the F2P folks and ask.

If it were me, I'd just use one of the remotes that came with the door opener.  I wired one of mine to a simple pushbutton switch mounted to the inner fairing cap, with the remote located inside the fairing, and it totally outperforms the Harley system in terms of range and reliability.  The Harley system seemed to have very short range and sometimes required multiple attempts before it finally opened the door.  The remote and pushbutton setup I have now works first time every time and at a much greater distance from the garage door (like 200-300 feet versus 50 feet).

Depending on the remote battery voltage, throw a dropping resistor in line and do away with having to ever change the battery again.

I guess I will see if I can program the F2P receiver and see if it will talk to my bike.

I have a spare rectangler remote that slides right into the slot for the rider backrest.  I can reach it easily and it works, but since I have the other stuff I thought I would give it a try.
