Model year colors
« on: January 10, 2012, 10:26:15 PM »

Are CVO bikes made in a certain color until allotted number is reached, and then switch to the next color. A dealer told me that all the orange and black ultra's have been made and there will be no more. Any truth to that ??

Don't know how true that is. My dealer has the Wicked Saphire on the floor in September. Sold it got a Orange and a Yellow one in. Than go 2 more Wicked Saphire ones. Little different than what your dealer said.

The only reason they wouldn't make more was if that color was not selling.    Which I would find hard to believe in the case of an orange and black Harley.   :2vrolijk_21:

I think your dealer in not being honest, they want to sell what they have coming.

I am sure there will be more of any said color produced before June, unless it just does not sell because no one likes the color

For earlier models, this was true.  A color was assigned a phase for production.  That has changed, though I'm not sure when it did.  Likely after the '09s.

Your dealer may not intentionally be lying to you; they may be unaware of the change.  The CVOs are now built on the line with regular production rather than assigned teams and individuals.

Colors are now available to be built in any phase, as I understand it.  Someone else may be able to further clarify.

That's because Tequila Sunrise was a 2010 color. :nixweiss:

the 2010 tequila sunsire is a different color then the 2012 color. they just  resused the name with a different color.
2010 color has a more red base coat and a green gold mid coat , the 2012 has a orange base coat with a orange gold mid coat  ;]

The 2012 colour you speak of would be better suited being called Tangerine.

Someday I would like to meet the person who makes up the names for all these colours... I'm sure they must wake up in the middle of a bad dream sometimes, and just write down the first thing that enters their head!

My local dealeer told me that Harley had to drop some of the colors because something in the paint was produced overseas and it's not available anymore.

Maybe the Chinese factory got shutdown.  Harley would be in a world of doo-doo if their other Chinese factories had the same issues.

I believe the paint issue had something to do with the near-nuclear meltdown in Japan...seems the paint, or one of its elements was manufactured there.
