Stock Amp
« on: February 02, 2012, 09:10:57 PM »

Hey guys,

Just got my 2012 Street Glide and have a question about the amp.  Are there any adjustable settings on the amp and is there a crossover being used?  I am trying to troubleshoot a lose in volume while riding.  Stereo sounds fine when turning the bike on, but once I crank it and get going the volume seems to drop, as though the amp is not working.  I get sound, but it seems to loose a lot of its "UMPH".  I have only 220 miles on the bike and I would hate to know I have already come across a problem with the bike!

If it keeps up I will most definitely take it to the dealer.  I just have not been able to find any information about the stock set up anywhere.  I believe most integrated amps do not allow for adjusting things like gain and crossover, but was curios to know if the HK system had these provisions.  I have run the Diagnostic and everything checks out fine when the bike is in the ignition or acc position.  Its just when I get riding it seems as thought the speakers are only being driven by the head unit.

I don't plan on really messing with anything but I would like to know the components a little better that are installed on the bike.

No adjustments of any kind on the 2012 SESG3 amp.

The audio system does have AVC (automatic volume control), similar to what you find in automobiles.  You can find it by pressing the volume control on the left grip until you get to AVC.  Then turn it up.  My experience is that it's not so much that the stereo volume goes down, but the ambient noise level rises, making it harder to hear the stereo.  Turning up the AVC will make the volume go up as the sound level around you increases.
Hope that helps.

I'd try turning off the AVC and see if the problem still exists. I have mine on two and it helps with the wife on the back, but I still find myself adjusting the volume at red lights though. I had mine turned off, but for some reason it seemed like the volume would not go as loud when it was all the way off.

I have messed with all kinds of settings with the AVC.  When I notice the fluctuation in sound I can tell its jot the AVC, its a loss of "power" to the sound.  Kinda hard to explain.  The music just becomes kinda hollow and not as full when I get up to spear.  The AVC compensates and makes it louder, but it just doesn't sound amplified.  It very well could just be me getting used to how it sounds when riding.   At this point I have tried to listen to the system so much and different levels and speeds, I have pretty much lost what I believe I should be comparing the sound to anyway...lol

Thanks for the replies and will post on any discovered and diagnosed problems.
