High Altitude Cam
« on: August 16, 2011, 05:55:29 PM »

Finally getting around to a cam for my 110.  Currently have a Ness Super Sucker, V&H X-pipe & fullsac with the SERT.  The elevation where I live is about 6,500 feet and most riding is done in the 3,500 to 7,000 elevation.  Given my "high living", I called Andrews and they told me to use their 48h cam - tech said lower air pressure at elevation would not work well with their 54h cam.  Does anyone have experience with the 48h cam or an alternative cam for folks who live at higher elevations?

I just put the Andrews 54H in my SERG, along with .0300 headgasket, TTS, no cat, and 2" fullsac baffles.  Runs better at 1500 feet than before.  Going to Colorado Friday for a week.  Will be up to 10-12 thousand feet.  Will report back on high altitude performance of 54H.

A smaller baffle pipe and the STOCK cam, a good tune. Those heads will have the motor flat with more overlap and TDC lifts at higher lower air pressure altitudes. If you have to change cams a Wood TW5-6 works

Ok, made it to Salida, 7200 feet.  Bike still runs great.  That cam pulls like a monster between 3-4000 rpm.  Still loving set-up.

Went over Monarch pass today.  Bike ran great all the way to 11,500 feet.  I am loving my Fulsac Stage 2 setup!

I have the same cam, worked just perfect up Pikes Peak, and Mt. Evans (rode up there just to see how the bike would run)!!

Went over a bunch of high passes today, highest was in Rocky Mountain National Park.  Over 12,200 ft.  Flawless performance.

Got back to Kansas after 3100 miles in the Colorado mountains.  Bike performed well, and after I did the math each day, the bike averaged 43-44 miles per gallon.  I never expected that!
