30T on a 2011 softail conv.
« on: July 06, 2011, 12:11:22 PM »

In the general area the is a long thread on changing from 32T to 30T drive pulley. I think they are all talking about to that mod to baggers. Has anyone does this to a softail? I know the pulley is the same, what I do not know is what belt to use I know it would be -1 from stock but dot not know the tooth count for a stock softail is it the same as a bagger at 140t belt which would make the needed belt a 139T. Please if anyone has any info please post

Check out this site,  plug in your year and then model and then you can isolate most any part you want to see.

That way you can get the info on the number of teeth the belt has and then you can (pretend like) you wanna buy the part by entering a quantity in the appropriate box and then go to "check out" and it will display the part number too. :drink:

You have for a 2011 ST convert.......133T rear belt (p/n 40073-07)

By the way,  I did the swap from 32T to 30T on my SE Ultra and did (NOT) lose the light or the cruise control either.....still works.

What would be the real benefit in changing the drive pulley. It seems for every gain theres a loss somewere else. (Street VS Highway)

 :-\

Razor.......You are correct,  any gear change one way will effect the other.  Many of us have not liked the (higher) gearing of the latest models that makes it more difficult to start out........with a 900 pound pig (minus you own weight).   So swapping out to a smaller toothed trans sprocket will make (getting the pig moving) much easier.......less clutch slippage and revving to get going.

Now,  does this mean that on the highway and 70-80 mph or so, that your revs are higher..........YES.            BFD for most of us :drink:

What I want is both off the line and a useable 6th gear. I beleave the worst thing for a Harley is to lug the engine I think lugging is anything under 2000 rpm I like to run about 2200 to 2400 and I think doing the 30t will put the bike in what I consider the sweet spot for balance of torque and engine RPM
