I purchased a 2009 CVO Ultra classic a couple months ago. The 1st thing that I noticed is a knocking sound from the primary if I don't slip the clutch and keep the revs up when first engaging from a stand still. I have read where many members are changing the front drive sprocket to 32 teeth from 30 and in some of those posts the compensator is mentioned. Some members are changing the compensators for the screamin' eagle unit. Is the " knocking " sound the compensator? This only happens from a stand still position

"primary compensator clank" is what i was told it was by my dealer, "it's a normal noisy" by design. something to do with the design on how they changed the ramps in the compensator. I just rolled my eyes and said ok. they opened it up, changed the fluid, and did something with the washers and it got better. now it just sound like a small rock beating around in there instead of a boulder.

You need a new compensator.

Replace it with the SE Compensator...it comes standard on the newer CVO's. Go figure...

If you have an extended warranty, they will probably replace it and you could pay the difference.
