2012 sound system
« on: March 22, 2012, 01:36:29 PM »

I would like to install the stock HD rear saddlebag speakers , amps, harness ,etc from a 2012 CVO SG on my 2011. First , has anyone done  this??  Looking in my flhxse2 parts manual I notice that there is already terminals for rear left and right speakers that are unused included in the existing wire harness. I am assuming that if I buy a flhxse3 parts manual , determine that the front amp and HK radio are the same as what is in my 11, then buy the saddlebag lids, speakers , the little amps that go in the saddlebags, and harness from the 12 , I can install it all successfully in my 11. Am I oversimplifying this or can it be done just like that? By studying the flhxse3 parts manual a little it seems it would be fairly simple to determine which parts match , which don't and which are needed to make the system work with the two added rear speakers and be powered seperately. Anybody got suggestions??? While I am at it , who can match Black Diamond paint for the new saddlebag lids should I be able to complete this project? I can have em painted here if I knew the paint codes , or I could send them to whoever can paint them. Thanks to anyone who can provide info for this.

Just read august post from Harley pingman and several others, -----------------obviously it can be done and I am going to do it . Still need paint info if anyone has it. Thanks,

Thank you Mister Wizard!!!!!! I have never seen that before, thought I had to find the paint and use it on the primed ones. Thanks! Now all I have to buy is the speaker kit.

If you are going through all that trouble you should consider replacing the amp in the fairing with a 4 channel unit and running all the speakers from that one amp..or you could use 2 amps......

Look at this thread for a very high end example.

Contact Tif2 for help...he is the man when it comes to audio on the SESG. On his advice, I replaced my speakers in the fairing and lowers with Hybrid Audio units and installed an Arc 125.2 amp to run them and it sounds great. Maybe next year I do saddlebbag speakers and switch out the amp to a 4 channel.......

Funny you mentioned that. I had my dealer install the xm module on my bike when I bought it , I guess they added the 6B connector that everyone talks about. He said it took him all of about 45 minutes to do the whole deal including removing the fairing and putting it back . I don't mind the little amp in the saddlebag that I see on the 2012's but I suppose it would be nice to only have one under the fairing and save that little bit of space in the bag. Unlike some of the posts I see about this topic , I had planned to actually order the speakers, harness, amp etc out of the 2012 SESG parts catalog to be sure I get the exact same setup as the bikes have. I think some of the stuff in the kits offered in the accessories book is different.

Rich (tif2) is working with Hybrid Audio on a waterproof saddlebag speaker that should be out in a few months.......I'm sure it will blow away anything the MoCo could offer.....

I have a set of the Imagine line in the lowers and a set of the Unity components in the fairing

http://hybrid-audio.com/

and here they are separated by product line

Just sent Rich an email . We will see what he suggests. Might be worth my while to take a ride and just have him install what I need. I am always looking for somewhere to go anyway!
