SESG Tail Lights
« on: March 22, 2012, 03:33:24 AM »

Has anyone other than me had to replace one or both? I have had to do both now... First the right and tonight the left went dark. Is this an issue or just a thing.

It's kind of funny in a way, unless you're the one footing the bills of course, how LED lights are promoted as being such a long life solution but when Harley does it they don't last as long as an old fashioned incandescent bulb.  At over $200 a pop for the Harley lights, I think I could buy the fanciest incandescents on the market for the rest of my life and have a pile of money left over.

LED's have the potential to last a lifetime.  But they won't when the supporting circuitry is poorly designed and manufactured on the cheap.  Harley had to redesign their lights after the first year due to all the failures; make sure when you replace them you get the latest level parts.  I believe the current stuff has an "A" suffix.

Yes Nick I had one go out after I went over a pot hole last year just after I installed the smoked US LED. The stealer replaced it with another no questions asked. No problems since that one incident.

Hey Mano. How's it going. Can't get mine covered by you know who because they are the us spec. I orders 2 from American today. The part number has been superseded so maybe they got better. Anyway... thought I should do them both

All is well.....I got mine from Toronto Harley so when I took it back they did not say boo. Just replaced it. Anyway IF you still have your amber lights it looks like you can carfully lift the tabs on the lenses. I have held on to my amber ones just for the same reason. The light unit looks to be the same it is just the lenses that have been swapped from smoked to amber.

Took delivery on my brand new '12, on March 10th and the right rear brake light didn't survive the 100 mile ride home!   Not cool.   Hubby took everything apart to check wiring, connections, and discovered a bad lamp assembly.   Contacted my local dealership who does all our mechanical work; ordered the part, and was replaced under warranty in a week.   Left a little sour taste from the dealership we got the bike from, but stuff happens.

lost my right one at about 2500 miles. Dealer sent me a new one and I replaced it. No problem since.

I am looking at changing the fender and tail light fascia to the SESG or SERG3 version on my 09 CUSE4. My question is about the LED lights. Are they yellow on non-US models or are they the same smoke gray that show red when running? Thanks

Us models are smoke and the system is run/brake and turn. In Canada and other international bikes they are amber colored and are signals only... There is a pignose tail light from run and brake.

I had swapped the ambers out for the US smoked and had Badlands motorcycle products supply me a landowners smile LED tail lamp to match and the made me a module to do the run brake turn.

Many others have since done the same using badlands for the electronics.

Thanks for the information. Want to make sure I order the right parts. Could I get you to take a picture under your saddle of the wire harness plug that connects to the rear fender wire harness and send it to me at fthngrg@gmail.com?
