2012 UC Exhaust change vs warranty
« on: March 26, 2012, 03:20:14 PM »

I'm looking to change the stock pipes to after-market because of the high heat from the right side pipe.  While I'm at it I'm thinking about an "auto-tune system.  Can anybody shed some light on the warranty issue as well as recommend some either two-into-one or straight dual great sounding pipes for the 110.

Since  you have a new bike, take it to your dealer who will be doing any warranty work and ask them. Answers to that question vary widely.

if you dont travel - and only one dealer works on it - then its up to them

but from the moco point of view - any change that is not on the street legal list voids the engine warranty

there are good arguments that they have to prove the change did the damage - but you probably need a lawyer to pursue it

the moco could just ask the epa what they think about the mod, ie if its ok, and then your goose is cooked

the conservative point of view - is dont change anything in the engine if you want warranty coverage - its even more strict for extended service - the esp contract makes it plain that engine mods void the esp on the drivetrain.

the liberal point of view is  that its your bike and your bux - so do what you want - just dont expect the moco will actually cover anything after that

If you put an auto tuner on...as in replace the ECM with an aftermarket brand...then your goose is more likely to be cooked than if you just do a simple exhaust change, which is what 90% of HD owners do anyway.

This is like a broken record, but one of the easiest and cost effective changes is to do the Fullsac X pipe header, the Fullsac cores of your choice, and the canned map for the ECM via the TTS Mastertune.  The pipes look stock...the mufflers still have the EPA stamping on them, and if necessary, you can upload the stock ECM map back into the bike in about 10 minutes...all you need is a laptop, the TTS dongle/cables, and the original map on either the hard drive, a thumb drive, a CD, or all three.

If you do a search for Fullsac, you can read all night here....
