575 Bars- Clutch Line?
« on: March 29, 2012, 06:58:46 PM »

Just put on my Wild 1 Chubby 575 bars and it looks like the clutch line is about 2 inches short.  Is there a rerouting suggestion that anyone has?  Putting them on my 08 Streetglide.  Most of the posts indicated that the stock brake and clutch lines should fit.  The brake line has plenty of length, it's the clutch line that is short.  Did HD make different length clutch lines for different years?

I had to order a 4" longer clutch cable. Made all the difference especially when the bars are turned all the way to the left. I yused Magnum Cables.  They ship right away and their cables look great   I don't see how anyone can make the stock clutch line work.  Took about 20 minutes to install.   :)

Gee Stu, how did Ken do it without ordering a clutch line?  My bars are sitting in the garage until next month when I get them installed but I wasn't thinking I would need any new lines  :nixweiss:

I guess that Mother Harley has different length clutch lines that they just use at random!!  Probably where ever they can source them the cheapest!  If I have to order a new clutch line, does anyone know what length of line I need?

I just put 575s on my Krypto.  Stock clutch and brake line worked without any problems, didnt need to reroute either.  Love the extra 2 inches the 575s move the grips back.   Im thinking that during the factory build process the clutch and brake line lenghts must not be very consistent.

Just checked out Magnum Cables web site.  Probably order the one that is 4 inches longer like the earlier post.  I have a question:  What color is "Sterling Chromite II" or do I order the other color "Black Pearl"?  My FLHX is Black so I assume the last choice.

You might be experiencing a difference in how they routed the lines at the assembly plant.  I know some of us on the earlier models found that some bikes had the clutch line routed through the fairing mounting bracket, while others had them routed on the outside of the brackets.  That will make a difference.

I'm pretty sure I just recently saw a picture on this site of a member's bike where he routed the line completely outside the fairing and down the frame downtube.  If he see's this thread perhaps he will chime in with some details.

Who knows.  Ken has everything going his way with his sg.  I know that my cables seemed way too short when I did my seeg.  I'm not doing anything with the bars on the new bike ,,,  for now anyway.   I'm ok and I have no problem reaching them. I am thinking that the 575 s might have my hands in the way of the mirrors.   The stock bars are fine , so I am gonna do something very different for a change.    Leave well enough alone.    :huepfenjump3:

You should be able to get some extra slack by re-routing. I changed my clutch line but I installed 12 inch PY bars. Study it and see what you can get. Changing the clutch line is not hard though. A little pricey but what the heck.

The only way that the clutch cable would fit is if I routed it totally outside the faring.  I really didn't want to do that and leave an empty hole in my faring.  I bit the bullet and ordered the +4 Black Pearl Magnum Clutch Cable.  The extra length should solve my problem.  Thanks to everyone, I really appreciate the advice.

If you do not order them you will need them. If you do order them, you may not need them.  HD QA policy on lines prolly plus or minus 2 inches anyways....I ordered +2 and needed them on my cuse4

Sorry. Now I see that you have a 08. I was thinking hydraulic clutch.
I hear you on wanting it to come out in the original hole.
 Good luck.
