Maybe stupid, but possibly common
« on: March 19, 2012, 05:28:40 PM »

I had an issue with the handling of my 2007 Road Glide being exceptionally heavy feeling. Had to push hard into corners.  Checked about everything there is to check EXCEPT tire pressure. My garage floor is carpeted and with the new lower sidewall tires, I didn't notice the tires being down. Air pressure was only 15lbs in each tire. Bringing it up to 35lbs corrected the problem.

As the title says, probably stupid of me not to think of this 1st, but maybe more common than people let on. In any event, just passing along at the expense of being ribbed a tip that could save somebody some time.

Any time that you learn something new it ain't all bad. I know that I wasn't born a genius and passing along the simplest things is all good. Thanks.

Not unusual at all. I'd be surprised if 1 in 10 check their tires w/ any regularity.

My '08 RG rides like it's on rails with 38 in the front and 40 in the rear. I have run Metzlers 880's, and  a Tru Track stabilizer on my last 3 touring bikes, and could not be any happier with the handling in all conditions.

At least you knew there was a problem.
I was at a local dealer and a service rep came out to tell a customer they only had 15 psi in their tires. They did not lnow there was anything wrong.
A local HOG Chapter "Safety Officer" had to quit a ride when his Bald rear tire gave out.

Just had new rubber put on a few weeks ago. Did a five K service yesterday and both tires had lot about 6 psi. Guess I better get in the habit of checking tire pressure more regularly. Had the wobbles one time because of low rear tire pressure, and that will tighten your azz. ;)

Over the years I have found it to my benefit to check all work that was done.
I am the one who will ultimately suffer the consequences.

One of my buddies use to brag about how smooth his Ultra rode. Following him one day I found out why. About 15 PSI will make your bike ride smooth.

Yeah, but like BB says, it don't handle worth a chit.  Use to run low air in the rear of the hardtail chopper 'cause that was the only rear suspension.  Aaaaaaa, the good ole days.  :) har.  spyder

Always a good reminder.   If the bike has been sitting for more than a week, I check them before heading out...
