Any Recommendations for wireless comm headsets?
« on: April 11, 2012, 07:55:49 PM »

Anyone have any "good" or "bad" with any wireless communication headsets.

Names? Brands? Price?

I am looking for a set that can be used with an open faced lid. Some range would be good
Taking a coast to coast ride and my buddy and we would like to be able to communicate with each other from time to time along the way.

All assistance is greatly appreciated.

popular over here in Germany are Interphone and Cardo Scala Rider. As both their present models F5 resp. G9 are just introduced this year I can't say much about them but the G4 worked flawlessly and was preferable over the F4 because of its USB connectivity and extended features. On paper G9 and F5 now seem to be more or less eqal. You may find reviews for the US market here.

I've used the Cardo Scala for several years now and satisfied with it's use. Does not work for me though with a half helmet. But I am also not using the half helmet kit.

I just got the Scala G4 powerset and love it. I got it through Amazon.com for $299.00. Thats for two factory paired complete units. It came from Chaparrell Motorsports. Came across the country in 3 days. No shipping and no tax. Best price I have seen. The G9 will be out soon. The main difference is the G9 will allow bluetooth communication between 9 units instead of 4. Will cost a lot more.

if you are interested in the G9 be advised the software for it will not be published before another week or two according to the German importer - so it may be wise to wait a little longer until other beta testers reported  ;)

For the price you'd be hard pressed to beat the Chatterbox XBi2

First, I ordered Interphone F5, I tried it 1 day and it was enough to understand that it was not what I was expecting because it was really too slow to operate and really to noisy when you drive ( with an open-face helmet) so I gave it back to the seller and took for approximatively the same price a scala G4 and now I'm really satisfied even if the blue tooth pairing is not always easy to do with some mp3 player or cell phone.

I have used the Cardo Systems Q2 (Older version - Orange lettering) for a number of years.  They worked flawlessly.  My wife rides her own and sometimes she rides on back with me.  Either way, they worked great.

Recently I bought a replacement set (The newer version - Q2 Pro - with Blue lettering)  I'm very dissappointed with the new set due to an echo I get on both units most noticably when she rides on the back with me.  When she rides her own, they sound much better. However at very close range it appears there is a problem.  Calls to Cardo have not resolved the problem yet.

Me and my BSR use the Cardo Scala G4 system. Love it!
Easy to use and set up. We both ride with open face helmets. Having said that the only problem we had was with my mike (what appeared to be a fuzzy distortion when I was speaking), but we had been riding in torrential rain for two days. The problem cured itself when we eventually dried out!

Some friends have now also got the same system and we have paired all 4 - works a treat and Jimbo and I have had conversations when we have been at least 0.5 mile apart (admittedly on a reasonably straight road) and out of sight.

Their website also has (free) software upgrades at various times which are really easy to download via the supplied USB lead
