brake switch recall
« on: March 24, 2012, 06:56:22 PM »

Has any one been left with spongy rear brakes (antilock brakes) after the brake switch was replaced?  They have bleed mine twice now but rear brake still is not like it was before the switch change.

Many folks have previously reported the same problem.  The ABS system requires a special bleeding procedure be followed by the  dealership "technicians".  If your dealership can't figure out how to bleed an ABS system properly, perhaps you need to find a better dealership.  If it were me, I'd be on the phone to Milwaukee to notify them of the failure of their dealer to properly complete a safety recall, and ask them to intervene.  They should either set you up with another dealership to complete the repair properly, or perhaps they could send someone to train the folks at your dealership.  It's pretty straight forward if they follow instructions.

Mine was done without brake issue but large chunk of paint off the rear corner of my side cover looks like it hit the seat strap buckle

halfcirclej, I did the rear brakelight switch recall and after they bled my brakes I noticed the HD Tech attaching an electronic device to my bike. Since my dealership doesn't mind if you go into the shop area and talk to your mechanic I told him that I had a TTS mastertune and was his machine going to do anything to my ECM. He said absolutely not, but he had to use this electronic device to recalibrate or reintegrate (i don't remember his exact words. but it sounded something like that) the abs system after a bleeding. Everything went fine no problems. So I guess my point is that if they don't do step two the "recalibration/reintegration" of the abs that may be what is causing your issue. I believe I have commented on this before, if so I  apologize for the repeat. CAHDBIKER

The dealer that did mine did the same thing. I just about ran across the highway coming out of their parking lot because the pedal went down so far. I was pissed and rather than have a confrontation with the service department, I rode home with mostly front brakes and bleed it myself. Haven't been back since. Also they did a friends bike and he ended up with air in his also. I bleed his for him also.

If the people who got this shoddy service from them don't complain to management, the guys doing it wrong will never learn how to do it right.  Even if you don't want to go back to them, at least call the dealer or general manager and let them know what's going on before someone gets killed.

Thanks for the replies from everyone. The mechanic I spoke to after the second bleed the next day. He replied to me that the machine (or what ever they call it) opened up all the ports so one can bleed the system manually. I told him he would have to do that very quickly to move the fluid fast enough to get it from the master cylinder up to the abs unit and back down to the caliper on the rear wheel. It would be very hard to get the air out with a squirt or two. I used to use the vacuum bleeder when I doing it years ago. an it used a bit of fluid sometimes to get the bubbles out for a firm pedal. It still has a soft pedal. My 1000 mile check is due an I will take it to the dealer I bought my 08 from.

Had mine done last Sat.  NO issues at all. Was pretty interesting to watch the dealership tech go through the process. He showed me the Moco recall e-mail and it specifically states the breaks HAVE to be run through the process twice. Bleeding and computer operation of the ant-lock motors that are on the right side of the bike.    Bird

I learned something....the Dyna borrowed the brake switch from a different bike and that was the problem of why my fluid disappeared in the back brake and tail light went out. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
