What baffle to run in Fat Cat?
« on: April 10, 2012, 08:22:27 AM »

I'm going to put a 2009 Fat cat on my 2011 SERGU, engine and AC are stock. Which baffle should I run? Which will give better performance. I wear ear plugs so loud isn't that much of a problem. I'm looking for the best low end torque. I'll run a PC-V till I can afford a Thundermax. Thanks, Rick

The tech guy at D&D claims that performance is the same for the "quiet" baffle and the standard baffle. That fat cat sounds great with either baffle. I love mine on my 07 SE Ultra. :2vrolijk_21:

I spoke with the good folks at D&D. They said the quiet baffle is to restrictive for anything but a 96" motor. They have a new louvered wrapped baffle that is quieter than the wrapped performance baffle. It is approved for a 110" motor. I have the performance baffle but wonder if it will be to loud for me. I have tinittis thats why I wear ear plugs. The wind noises makes my ears ring.

Have you thought about adding the Power Commander Auto-Tune modules to your PC-V?  Might be cheaper than getting a new system and dumping the old one.

I have the PC-V with AT, and it's been a good one; saved me from multiple dyno-tune expenses when I changed A/C, pipes 3 times, and put in a performance cam.

I guess if you've already bought the PC-V it wouldn't hurt to use it, but I'd sell it if possible.  You've already got a better ECM than the T-Max.  I'd say your best money would be spent on a TTS kit with which to re-calibrate the ECM directly.  By using a PC-V you'll be throwing away closed-loop and its adaptive fueling system in the stock ECM (which you've already paid for) and you'll most likely be dicking with the combustion monitoring through the spark-plug.  The T-Max doesn't have that last part at all, and it doesn't use manifold pressure for either fueling or spark timing; MAP is far better at both of those, giving much finer control that's totally load-based.

But you won't be able to use the O2 sensors that fit that pipe with the stock ECM and you won't have sensor bungs of the proper configuration or size to use what came with your bike, so I wouldn't go that route either unless you want to (properly) install a couple of sensor bungs on the pipes.
