Since you solved the problem (with the help of board members), I think they should pay you for training their techs.  :nixweiss:

I always love it when folks who are getting paid to know all the important stuff about our vehicles (or home mechanical and electrical systems for that matter) think we should pay extra because they don't know what the hell they're doing and it takes them many hours to perform a 15 minute "repair".  There is no excuse for a franchised Harley dealership service department to not know about this problem, all they have to do is read the bulletins Harley sends them.  And if that fails, a call to the tech hotline would have probably resulted in being pointed to the same bulletin Scott posted.

As to who should pay, IMHO that would be between Harley-Davidson Motor Company and that clueless service department.  Yes, the bike is out of warranty.  BFD!  They should have done a recall or service campaign to fix this before it failed, and it is definitely a defect, not normal wear and tear or lack of maintenance or customer abuse.  They should pay and be grateful they avoided a lawsuit that might have resulted if their crap had caused a crash.  They can argue with the dealer about how much they should pay for their incompetence, but the customer shouldn't pay squat.

Kind of like the regulator issue underway with the current year bikes...

Just a note to everbody, dielectric grease goes in EVERY connector i touch. in this case putting dielectric
in the throttle body connector has eliminated all intermittent throttle action from all bikes we set up. the only
problems we see are from other shops. everybody should go check there connectors now. I do like the
hd dielectric grease but any brand is better than nothing.   axil
