110 power loss
« on: May 05, 2012, 09:32:25 AM »

Left work and the bike stumbled when I took off. It seem OK for a couple of blocks then when I stopped and took off to get on the main road it had no power to get up to speed. I backed off the throttle and eased it up to speed and babied it home a couple of miles away. It was popping on deceleration and it never does this. When I shut it off the motor seem real hot like it was running lean. I had just put gas in it yesterday at a different gas station then I normally go to. SO i am going to drain the tank and put new gas in it. But, I am really thinking it is a fuel pump issue. The bike has 33k mi on it. Any ideas? ???

At that mileage I'd be far more concerned about a fuel filter than a fuel pump.

I'd have no clue without knowing the history and what was done by the shop.

Try some dry-gas?
Might have grabbed some water on your last fill-up?

Turns out the problem was the fuel pressure regulator housing was broken, so the fuel injection did not have enough pressure to work properly. :)
I also found out my extended warranty does not cover it >:(

And why is that?  The ESP should cover fuel system components that aren't normal maintenance items, like the filter.  Are you sure it was the regulator that cracked, or was it the filter shell that Harley recalled due to a cracking issue perhaps?

I don't see what model and year you have listed in your profile btw.  If it's a 2008 model, check out the following thread:

If you have a 2008 and the fuel filter shell is cracked, it should be covered under the recall.

What exactly was broken?  And why, exactly was it not covered by warranty?

Thanks for your reply. The bike is a 2007 CVO Ultra Classic, with 33k on the clock.  I asked the stealer to show me the broken part, but he claimed it was already trashed. Anyway, he told me the regulator housing was broken and leaking. I am going to call the warranty outfit myself and find out why it was not covered. :confused5:

At least in California, dealers are required to supply replaced parts upon request.  Not sure what the laws are where you live, but that's a pretty common practice for repair shops.  They shouldn't have disposed of it before checking with you first, no matter whether it was a recall repair or not.
