Ohlin's rear shocks
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:24:15 PM »

Just got off the phone with Howard at Motorcyclemetals and ordered the Ohlin 6's. He says I will be amazed at the performance and obviously I believed him. definitely the most expensive set up out there but I am a believer in "you get what you pay for"... I will post after I receive and install...

Awaiting your feedback. I'm on the fence with 3-3 or 6. Howard says 6 is that much better, but IDK big diff in $. I don't ride long distance often and not that aggressive either. I'd like the most comfort, but not sure 6 would be all that much better for me.

Just took my first ride today with the Ohlin 6's. Unbelievable!!! Absolutely worth every penny. I have been riding Harley's for many many years and have never felt anything like these and there not even broke in yet...
Howard called me Sunday morning to see how it was working out (was out of town so I hadn't tried them yet). Great customer service!

Have a set coming thursday. Took off stock in about 5 minutes. How long did the install and setup take?

OK,  Im interested in this thread and improving my ride on the Ultra,  but what (if any) changes are those of you doing this to the (front) forks....suspension.

It seems to me if you're gonna spend the bucks to maximize your rear suspension,  ya gotta do the same for the front..............What have you done there...... :nixweiss:

I'm going with mono tubes. The next step up from that costs about 4x as much and from all I've heard the mono tubes are very good. If I ever decide to sell or trade up its very easy to put stock rears back on. Not so quick to do the same for front.

I did the Harley double cartridge in the front. They work great together.

SanDiego, sent you a PM not sure if you got it. Anyway I got the shocks on and love the ride. Howard must've been out riding today when I called him. Only thing I'm unsure of is ride height seems to be a little taller. The way I know is that I've got a wheel dock center stand and its not as stable when on the stand anymore. Seems the tire has more of a contact point in the middle than before and almost tricycles the stand with the stand being training wheels ya know. Not to the point of falling over, but definitely not as rock solid as it was before. Do you have a center stand and did the new shocks affect it?

Did not get Your message, sorry. Don't use a center stand but definitely raised the ride height about an inch. Don't really see a difference in appearance but felt it on the bike. It actually works better for me and I could never ride my bike again with any other shocks...
Hope that difference doesn't screw you up!

Love the ride, just gotta come up with something for stand and break the habit of usin it in the mean time.
